This Christmas, my dad got me a copy of ‘Work Time Fun’, which bills itself as ‘SUPER FUN JOB GAME’. I was pretty freaking excited. ‘Work Time Fun’ abbreviates to WTF, and that’s certainly THE EXACT PHRASE that flitted through my mind when I opened up the sealed case to discover there was no game inside. Is this some sort of Japanese existential joke? ‘Make-a you own work time fun; hai!’ Or did Amazon want to teach me a lesson, given all of my rants about the super-commercialization of christmas? If so, well played, Amazon. Well played.
Also, if Napoleon wasn’t a total camerawhore, you’d be able to see the mystery present my grandma got for me–not booze, or porn, or guns, but awesome nonetheless; a sewing machine! No more sewing things by hand? SWEET.
OMG awesome secret giftification! Hey, wanna hem my new curtains for me? 😉
Also, how did I not know Napoleon is an ADORABLE Jack Russell?!? So cute!
He *knows* exactly how cute he is,too. He gets away with murder. I can’t stay mad at that face!
As far as hemming your curtains goes, I don’t see why I couldn’t do that for you unless you want scalloped edges or something ultra-fancy like that. 🙂
Aw, I’m mostly joking. My auntie will do it for me, no worries. I have to get some other fabric and/or curtain panels, before I can do anything with the sheers I have already. I need a more opaque fabric to go under the sheers, for privacy and light-blocking.
I purposefully bought ones that were far longer than I need, because they were the same price as the shorter ones, figuring I could cut off the excess and use it for pillows or something equally Martha-ish. I’m just going to have straight, simple hems done, and then hang the sheers and the opaque fabric with those curtain rings that have little alligator clips on them. Easy!
I’d show them to you, but they’re sold out from Overstock.com. They’re a dark beige sheer, with dark sagey fern all-over print. I lurv them!
My sewing machine? Has martha stewart on the BOX. So you know that I can hook you up with some sweet curtains should your auntie be too busy. 😀
I will indeed keep that in mind! Maybe that’ll be our excuse to hang out. 😉
Glad so see someone has a parent who has a fucking clue what their kid likes.
Your dog is Wishbone!
Never mind, I wasn’t paying close attention.
Except he doesn’t like to wear little costumes, or I’d be dressing him up ALL THE TIME.
I got a sewing machine for the holidays too!
Does this mean stuffed cthulumas ornaments??
That’s *exactly* what that means! What are you going to make first? 🙂
I don’t know, I haven’t done this since Home Ec in middle school. I haven’t set it up yet…I’m a little intimidated.
That’s about the last time I touched one as well; though the year after home ec, I was in FHA, which I didn’t understand expanded to ‘future homemakers anonymous’ so I didn’t know why my dad was so disappointed that I’d joined an extracurricular sewing class. Now I get it completely.
My sewing machine came with an instructional dvd, so I think maybe I’ll pop that in tonight to get reaquainted with the whole process.
nice! I’m sure there are websites too. If I come across any cool ones, I’ll send them along!
I’m looking forward to being skilled enough with a machine to be able to look at an outfit and scoff “I could do that”, and make it in an afternoon. When that day comes, I will have the best. wardrobe. ever.
cutest dog…ever.
and best punchline to a game ever.
Thanks! I think he’s awfully cute myself. 🙂
SCORE! on the sewing machine. (Assuming it isn’t just a sewing machine box filled with booze and/or porn.. which is also acceptable)
I confess… sewing is on my list of “crap I would like to try if I had time/money/etc”. Along with candymaking. And probably some other domestic stuff I’m too ashamed to admit to…
There’s nothing wrong with liking domestic stuff–don’t think of it as homemakery stuff, but more like cultivating skills. It’s a pretty neat thing to be able to make yourself an outfit, or do something beautiful and unique for your home, something that no one else has.
